Gingerbread houses are a very widespread custom in northern Europe. Christmas is the time to enjoy with the family, and with this little house made of biscuits you will spend a very fun afternoon, shaping it and decorating it.

This house has a very special flavor thanks to the ginger and the syrup, in addition, you can make several and decorate them as you like, a beautiful Christmas decoration. The children will surely devour it in no time!

  • 275 gr of wheat flour
  • 125 gr of brown sugar
  • 340 g of icing sugar
  • 125 g of butter (room temperature)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tablespoon yeast
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 4 teaspoons of honey
  • Tips: to decorate the house you can use sugar glaze, jelly beans or whatever you want

Follow our step by step and get to work with the children to make this beautiful gingerbread house for family Christmas:

1. Preheat the oven to 185º, and line a tray with baking paper.

2. Mix the butter or margarine with the sugar until well combined. In another bowl, mix the rest of the dry ingredients: flour, yeast, ginger and cinnamon. Reserve the icing sugar, it will serve to join the pieces. Add the butter to the bowl and knead.

3. Separate the yolks from the whites. Reserve the latter. Add the yolks to the previous mixture and continue kneading. Add the honey, form a ball with the dough.

4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface. Cut out two rectangles (the walls), two other rectangles a little longer (the roof) and two rectangles with a triangle on top (the front walls).

5. Place the pieces on the tray, and bake them at 185º for 10 or 15 minutes, taking care that they brown without burning. Take out and let cool, as they will still be soft.

6. Prepare the icing to stick the house pieces: Whip the two reserved whites to stiffness, halfway through the process gradually add the icing sugar, continue beating until they are very firm and shiny.

7. Assemble the house, using a pastry bag, spatula or teaspoon to pour the icing on the edges of the walls (as if they were cement). Start with the walls, when they have dried, make the roof.

8. Decorate the house with the rest of the icing, and place jelly beans, lacasitos ... on the roofs and ... let your imagination fly !.
