The classic or traditional games they have been a primary element in childhood for several generations. Games such as rope, hopscotch or blind chicken have passed from father to son in Spain, becoming the main pastime of children.

At present, children's leisure has put aside this type of hobbies, giving way to a class of more individual and sedentary entertainment. Even so, some of these games are still seen in the parks and, especially, in the schoolyards.

In we selected 5 popular Spanish games that have passed from generation to generation until reaching our days.

1 - The Hideout it is one of the most basic and popular traditional games. Anywhere we can find a group of children playing 'Hide and seek', as it is a world-renowned collective game.

The rules of hiding are that one or more children hide and another has to look for those who have hidden. Before starting to play, the area where the participants can hide is delimited and raffled to see who begins to flirt.

2 - Blind Chicken. Like hide and seek, the blind man's game is very popular in different parts of the world. Unlike this one, to play 'Blind Chicken' you need a minimum of four people and a small textile garment that was originally a handkerchief.

Next, the participants draw to see who starts, they will have to cover their eyes with the garment and turn around singing the following song: 'Blind chicken that you have lost a needle and a thimble, turn around and you will find it '. Once the song is finished, the child with the blindfold will have to find the others.

3 - Hopscotch. This game is a classic of school breaks. With a simple blackboard chalk, children can draw a square on the ground to see who can complete it by hopping.

A 'Hopscotch' can be played individually, although it is always more fun to do it with two or more participants. To do this, a white chalk is taken and squares are drawn on the ground and they are numbered from one to ten.

Subsequently, each participant must take a stone and throw it on each square and complete the square by jumping on the limp, and so on. If the stone does not fall within the corresponding squares, he loses his turn and it is up to the next one. The winner will be the first to reach ten.

4 - The rope. Jumping rope is an activity that can be understood as a children's game or as physical exercise. Like the previous popular games mentioned, 'The rope' is an activity in which a certain physical effort is made, hence the importance of this type of entertainment in child development.

One of the advantages of rope jumping is that it can be done individually or collectively. If played individually, it is the person himself in charge of spinning the rope and jumping, while if it is practiced collectively, the rope will be turned by two people, one at each end, while another person will be in charge of jumping.

5 - The handkerchief game. This type of team play involves a certain competitiveness because it is played in teams. Like the rope, the game of the handkerchief is used as training in various team sports, since it encourages internal competitiveness and group fun.

In this case, the rules to be followed are very simple. Two teams with the same number of members will be placed one in front of the other, while another person will be placed between the two opponents acting as judge. This person will have to extend a handkerchief or textile garment with one of his arms and when he deems it appropriate, he will have to shout the following: 'Ready, set, go!' At that time, one member of each group must run to get the handkerchief before their opponent. The team that wins the handkerchief the most times is the winner.
